The effect of waste low-density polyethylene on the mechanical properties of thin asphalt overlay

In recent years, there has been a huge demand for innovative methods to upcycle waste materials. This study aims explore and evaluate the effect of using low-density polyethylene (w-LDPE), collected from plastic bags domestic purposes, on mechanical properties dense Thin Asphalt Overlay (TAO). Waste materials have deemed appropriate in development asphalt pavement mixtures, due expected enhancement mixture further reduction cost saving natural resources. Three dosages w-LDPE were incorporated with binder: 2%, 4%, 6%. Marshall stability flow test, indirect tensile strength, creep compliance, skid resistance, wheel track, Cantabro abrasion loss strength ratio tests carried out both control modified mixes achieve aim study. The results show substantial performance TAO when compared mix. pre-eminent improvement was obtained compliance which value decreased by 83% 6% w-LDPE. indicated that material is an effective method modification also contributes promoting environmental sustainability.
